Alice Hinther
Sometimes I laugh so hard the tears run down my legs.” That’s the caption on one of Alice Hinther’s most popular cards, one with a cheeky looking 1950’s woman against a red-polka-dotted background, but it could just as well describe reactions to her line of greeting cards.
Alice’s life is about expectation, not so much of others or even of herself as about what’s possible when you try things most people cluck their tongues at.
A self-taught multi media artist, Alice creates funny, whimsical and sometimes downright rude greeting cards using old images from the 1940s and 1950s, as well as images from her own family photo albums. The cards are a multi-layered collage of pages from old books, photos, quotes and other bits of ephemera.
Alice lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
